Possibly the Most Environmentally Friendly Mercedes Ever

And it might be one of the most fuel efficient too.

I don't know about you, but I don't need a big honking SUV for my day-to-day errands. I don't need loads of power or torque, nor do I need a whole lot of cargo space to haul around my laptop and MP3 player. I would appreciate some luxury items, of course, but so long as my basic needs are met, I'm reasonably happy with the vehicle I drive. Well, Mercedes has just unveiled the diesel Vision C220 Bluetec. Although it has a perfectly capable 170hp and an absolutely astounding 295 lbs-ft of torque, it is super stingy at the pump, getting 43 miles on the gallon.

In terms of emissions, this latest addition to the Bluetec line is way ahead of its time. In fact, they say that it is in line with the EURO 6 emissions standards which will apply to all new vehicles in 2015. That's still quite a ways off and this car is already that environmentally friendly. It cuts nitrogen oxide limits down to about 30 percent of current limits and significantly reduces CO2 emissions. Dieter Zetsche, better known as Dr. Z around these parts, said that this concept "is currently the best and most efficient solution available." Big words. Try to deflect some attention from the sinking ship known as the Chrysler Group?
