They're not quite ready to unleash the next-generation Audi TT on us, so in the meantime, the German automaker has gone ahead and revealed an all-new model upon us, the Audi A5 coupe. For all intents and purposes, the luxurious 2-door sports car is targeting the same market as the much more well-established BMW 3-Series coupe, whereas some may say that the much sportier S5 is probably a better competitor with its upgraded engine and suspension. The car that I'd be more interested in -- if I could afford it -- would be the RS5. Audi, where's that?
As you probably already know, in Audi language, the "A" is your garden variety vehicle for the average consumer. You've got the A4 on the lowest end of things, moving all the way up to the fairly large and in charge A8. When you plunk an "S" in front of those numbers, you get a stiffer suspension and a series of cosmetic upgrades. But "RS", that's where it's at. Maybe it stands for "Really Sporty."
The two-door Audi A5 and S5 are expected to make their official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and until then, the details are still pretty slim other than a bevy of promotional photos and pictures. Industry pundits are predicting a 4.2L V8 engine, with the S5 developing somewhere around 340 horsepower.
