Every major team sport has a World Cup and the gap between the World Cups is usually 4 years. This year is the Cricket World Cup. I had written about Cricket and India a while back. If you are not sure what Cricket is, it's a team sport just like baseball. Well, you can read more on wiki. This year, the Cricket World Cup is played in the West Indies. This is the first time that West Indies are hosting this mega event.
There are eight main test playing countries participating. India, Australia, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Bangladesh complete the list. There are eight other non-test playing countries participating as well and they would cause no consequence to the outcome of the winners. Australia are the defending champions for the past 8 years. They have won the cup consecutively for the past 2 terms. They are the favorites this time round as well. The other favorites are India, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
